LaCie SilverKeeper 1.1.4 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Glad I found SilverKeeper before paying for SuperDuper!

I was just about to pay for SuperDuper when I found out they raised the price of their app from $20 to $28. Grrrrr... that made me look at backup solutions for Mac OS X one last time, and I ran across SilverKeeper. SilverKeeper is an easy to use backup app with all the features of SuperDuper, but SILVERKEEPER IS FREE!!!! Hmmm... wonder how the app got its name? :P I cloned my entire HD to a FireWire drive in about 1 hour, and I was able to boot off the backup no problem. The instructions are well written which makes the app easy to understand and use. THANK YOU LaCie for making this fine program AND for releasing it as FREEWARE for the Mac community. I'll definitely consider a Lacie drive next time I am in the market. [alert admin]

WireTap Pro 1.1.3 (Mac OS X)

Great for iDVD menu loops

TIP: Find WireTap 1.0 (freeware) on the web and install it. 1.0 will not work with Tiger, but you can install this Pro version, and then use the uninstaller to remove the Pro application but keep the kernel extension, and then WireTap 1.0 freeware will work under Tiger. I just used WireTap (freeware) to record a 30 sec audio sample from Apple iTunes Store, and I used the audio recording as a 30 sec background audio loop in iDVD to create a Christmas DVD. AWESOME! Accordance 6.9.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Widget is majorly messed up in 6.9.1

I've had trouble with the accordance widget in the past, but this time it seems worse than ever. Unusable right now. At least the app works. [alert admin]

Apple Broadband Tuner 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Broadband Optimizer works better for me

I've use BroadbandOptimizer for years. I'm running the latest 1.5 version of BO. I took it to the trash, installed Apple Broadband Tuner, and then restarted. I have a 5Mbps connection through Time Warner Cable. I saw a decrease in internet speed from about 4700Kbps to 3900Kbps, averaging 3 test runs. I may do more testing later, but initial test show BroadbandOptimizer works better for me. YMMV. [alert admin]

Xkeys 1.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Love this app!

Great app. I used to have function keys enabled under OS 9 to open applications, now I can do it under OS X. Even better that this is freeware. Working great under OS 10.4.3 on an iMac G5. [alert admin]

This game still rocks!

I still play the MP version as my only online game. Man, this game rocks! I guess when you possess the l33t skillz I have, you will have this much fun, too. :) One gripe, the 1.4.1 version is still considered BETA? Now that's lame. 2 years and they cannot even get this out of beta? [alert admin]

MacTheRipper 2.6.3 (Mac OS X)

Can't get MacTheRipper to work

I've been using DVDBackup 1.3 for a couple years. It is simple to use and has never given me any troubles. I thougtht I'd try MacTheRipper because it continues to get updated, while DVDBackup has not been updated in over 2 years (but still works great, so no need, I guess). Anyway, I downloaded MacTheRipper 2.6.1 about a week ago, then v. 2.6.2, now 2.6.3, and this app either gives me an error reading a DVD, or else the app quits. i have not been able to use it to backup a DVD. So, it's back to DVDBackup unlesss 2.6.4 or later will work for me. G5 dual 2GHz/3GB/10.3.7/Sony DW-U10A 4x SuperDrive. [alert admin]

DVDRemaster 2.0.1 (Mac OS X)

I ain't upgrading either

I have been using version 1 for a long time. I do not use it that often. I was thinking of spending the extra $15 to upgrade, but thanks to Peter_H's fine comments, I am going to pass on this. Metakine is a fine company that has always sent an email about every v1.x.x upgrade. But with the 2.0 release, there is no feature comparison/speed comparison between v. 1.4.1 and 2.0Pro. Why? What reason do I have to upgrade? It appears Metakine REMOVED features while offering no speed improvement and want you to pay to get the features back. The only new feature is "movie only" mode. Hmmm... how about I just keep using v. 1.4.1 and keep my $15? [alert admin]

I think your problem is your internet connection...

Dude, you posted your comment 6 times. Maybe your problem isn't the program but your lousy internet connection. LOL

Apple Broadband Tuner

In my testing with a 5Mbps Time Warner cable account, BroadbandOptimizer 1.5 produced better results than Apple Broadband Tuner 1.0. I was under the assumption an Apple supplied optimizer would be better than a utility that is several years old (with only an update for Panther 10.3), but my assumption was wrong. Long live BroadbandOptimizer! ;)

I ain't upgrading either - Go Ahead, It is Free

h0w, I don't think you understand. The pro version is NOT free, but the pro version is required to get all the features that 1.4 had. Upgrading to the free 2.0 version causes a LOSS of features, which is why all the complaining.

Nice, I guess..

Play around with the settings in the Menumeter system preference pane. You can turn off displaying any of the features you do not want, like CPU and memory stats, by de-selecting the "Display ..." check box. Personally, I like seeing CPU, memory usage, and network all in my menu bar. I have no use for disk access. I have mine set as follows: Display --> CPU: percentage and thermometer --> memory: Used/Free totals --> Network:…

keeps crashing!!!

regardless of some people's blind devotion to a product, I find it helpful when users report problems with an application. Just because most users do not have a problem doesn't mean all users will never have trouble with an App. And I highly doubt the VT rating system was designed to artificially make a product appear better than it actually is.

Bad Sectors Error with Latest Release

Yikes! Lots of failures. I, too, have had problems with MTR. Search on "DVDBackup" and try that app. DVDBackup has always worked great for me (but I haven't tried those titles you mention).
