Harmony Remote 7.3.0 (Mac OS X)

Great Software...

While I found the web-based configuration site a lot faster and more responsive, this does everything that the old website did, and looks a little flashier. For those of you having issues with the software, I'm not sure what you're doing wrong... I've had a few components in my home theatre upgraded or removed since I bought my 659 about 18 months ago, and it has seamlessly adjusted everything to work my already-created "Activities". When I bought a new TV, it had just been released by Toshiba, so the Harmony, understandably, had a couple of what were essentially "typo's" in the configuration... Such as having 2 composite inputs, where the TV actually has 3, which wreaked havoc with the input selection (since it picks off a numbered menu). Once I got those couple of things ironed out with the TV, it's been perfect. I'm not sure if the configuration is completely different for the 1000, but I don't see it being that difficult to setup a couple of "Watch TV" or Watch a Movie" activities, for each room/viewing area, and only adding the components that are necessary. When I set up Watch TV, for example, it asked me if I wanted to use my TV or my satellite box to select channels, and if I wanted to use my TV or my receiver to control volume, etc etc. I would assume that it's the same for the 1000, and just select the device that applies. PocketMac for BlackBerry 4.0.20b (Mac OS X)

Oops...

Apparently I do have 4.0.20b. I guess VersionTracker was about 4 months behind on updating their page, because I downloaded this version in August. Oh, and for those of you who complain about the support on a free product... Feel free to dish out $40 for Missing Sync for BlackBerry, which I hear is quite unreliable, albeit with better tech support. Anyways, let me know if my solution fixed your problems, or at least helped... [alert admin]

PocketMac for BlackBerry 4.0.20 (Mac OS X)

Works pretty well...

I only use it to sync my contacts and calendar on my Pearl... I don't use any of the other categories at all. It works perfectly for what I need it for, although the application installing feature is a little unreliable. I'm using 4.0.20, not .20b, so maybe it got broken, but I'm not going to upgrade and find out as .20 is working great. However, those of you who are having issues getting it to work at all... I had the same problem, but I've found a solution which, so far, makes syncing a success every time. 1. Unplug the USB data cable from your Mac AND your BlackBerry completely (both ends!!) 2. Open PocketMac 3. Set your preferences for syncing the various categories (only need to do this once) 4. Plug the data cable into your Blackberry 5. Plug the other end into your Mac 6. Hit Sync, and voila!! It works The other thing I did on my Pearl is, I went into Options>Advanced Options>Media Card, and changed "Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected" to "Yes". I assume this is only necessary if you have a memory card in your Blackberry. Anyways, the key to this whole thing seems to be making sure that the blackberry isn't plugged into the Mac until after you open PocketMac, and also it seems to be more reliable if you plug the cable into the Blackberry first and into your Mac second (which logically should make absolutely no difference at all, but apparently does.) Anyways, this app has been perfect for me once I figured that out, and you can't beat the price. [alert admin]

WirelessDriver 1.0.0b5 (Mac OS X)

A tip, and a question...

Ok, first my tip... For "marylandguy101"... To use WEP, if your router supports it (I don't have an Apple router, so I don't know), just enable it on the router end, and then go into System Preferences->WirelessConfig (It's at the very bottom, in the "Other" category), enter the network name, as well as th WEP key, if applicable, and the WEP encryption type. Now, I have a question. I have a Lexmark Optra E310 (B&W laser) printer, hooked up via a printer "bridge" (the printer is parallel-only) to my router. I'm connected wirelessly as follows: My TiBook (800mhz 15", OS X 10.3.4), with an internal Airport card, is hooked into my wired router (Linksys BEFSR81), through an ethernet cable, obviously. My Powerbook G3 (Wallstreet rev. 2, OS X 10.2.8), with a Lucent WaveLAN Silver PCMCIA card and these drivers installed, is using the wired connection (Using internet connection sharing) from my TiBook. The internet works, and I have full access to the other 6 macs wired to the router, including the TiBook. However, I can't access the printer. Anyone have any ideas on this? I might try adding it while wired into my router, and then accessing it wirelessly... But I have a feeling that won't work. Anyone have any bright ideas? -Aran [alert admin]

NoSleep 3.0 build 3 (Mac OS X)

Does it...

Dim the screen and spin the HD down? Otherwise, you're blocking the most important vent for hot air exiting the machine - the keyboard - while the machine is running. Not only will this ruin your LCD, it can easily cause the processor to overheat. -Aran [alert admin]

Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Good luck...

You can *censored* at the manager all you want, but there's no way you'll get them to take it back. For all they know, you coulda burned it, copied down the cd key, and then brought it back, complaining about how horrible it is so that they'll just take it back. If you have a lot of time on your hands, you can always give it a shot, I guess. -Biggie! [alert admin]

Mac Messenger 3.0a12 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Doesn't work for me...

Used 2.7 up until it refused to log in (just sat there while connecting). Saw this version, so I decided to give it a shot. It looked nice, up until I tried to connect. It started connecting, and then "unexpectedly quit". I'm running Panther Retail (just installed this morning), on a Blue&White G3 w/ Sonnet G4/500, 384MB RAM. [alert admin]

Apple Mac OS X 10.3 (Mac OS X)

Keyboard issues

Certain keyboard "enhancers" which have not been updated to 10.3 compatibility have had problems with certain keys (C is the most common one). If you uninstall things like USB overdrive, Kensington/Logitech/Microsoft keyboard/mouse software, and any other things you might have installed, until they're updated for panther. Just what I've heard. Hope this helps. -Aran Crowe [alert admin]

Terra 1.2b1 (Mac OS X)

Cry me a river...

Your "plea" isn't going to stop the software pirates of the world from pirating software. And no, hotline is NOT only for downloading pirated software. Hell, Ambrosia had (has?) a hotline server for people who, because of hotline's resume capabilities and whatnot, would rather use hotline as opposed to IE or whatever. Yes, there is a lot of pirated software. But it isn't killing the platform. I often will use a pirated version of a game or an app, because I don't like paying for something if i don't know how well it will run on my blue&white g3. I'll use it for a bit, and if its no good, I'll delete it. If it's good, I'll buy it. What are you gonna beg people not to use next? Limewire and MLMac? KDX and carracho? Hell, IE and Safari can be used to download serial numbers and pirated apps. Hotline has saved my ass many a time. For example... My computer is essential to my livelihood, and earlier this summer, OS X died on me. Refused to boot, and DiskWarrior and Drive 10 couldn't do anything. So I go to dig out my Jaguar CD's, and proceed to reinstall. Surprise, surprise - CD 1 is scratched pretty bad, and the install fails. I use my friend's computer to attempt to burn a copy to use, but it won't finish the burn because it can't read everything on the disc. So I go to my favorite hotline server at my friend's place, and find a server with OS X 10.2. I download and burn the CD's, and reinstall. Voila. Back to work for me. And yes, downloading those CD's was completely legal. And just because 90-some percent of the people who use Hotline and other P2P services are pirating software, there are the odd few who use it for 2 reasons - try-before-you-buy, and software recovery. So lose the righteous attitude about how the macintosh platform is being destroyed. Cause I don't buy it at all. -Biggie! [alert admin]
