DiskWarrior 3.0.3 (Mac OS X)

Update definitely blows

Gets as far as asking for a blank but displays an error before I get the blank loaded up. It would be nice if I could make the disk image myself, let the updater make whatever changes it needs to on the image file, and then I burn the disk. The one-click approach sounds nice but doesn't work. Great software. Crappy update process. [alert admin]

Tsunami 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Watch more TV...it's *good* for your brain!

C'mon people. Nothing good on the tube tonight? Anyone actually *try* the app? The only complaint I have is that it takes about 30 bounces before displaying a window. It's not a Jerry Lewis Telethon-style counter capturing deaths as they happen. You might know that if you bothered to examine it before offering your soapbox morality to the world. The author is clearly trying to make the point that this is a major disaster and the primary purpose of this app is to encourage people to donate to relief efforts. That's tasteless? As the saying goes, no good deed goes unpunished. [alert admin]

The icon is generic *and* the app extension in Get Info is gone. Consider using .dmg. [alert admin]

You were correct, Ryan. Now if only I could get Safari to recognize .sitx ... Thanks! [alert admin]

Doesn't launch

MacOSX 10.3.7 Double-click does nothing. App extension shows up properly in Get Info window, but it is DOA. Someone that knows what they're doing with Terminal might be able to see if it can launch from a command line. Maybe it is missing a dynamic library? [alert admin]

ThinkFree Office 2.3.0417.64 (Mac OS X)

Did I miss something?

What's the BFD here? ThinkFree <> IsFree. I always interpreted the name to mean "Microsoft-free", which is (I think) the whole point of an alternative office suite. As for the price, is $50 really *that* high? Hogwasher will set you back that much and it is just a newsreader! Does it still need work? Yes! Remember that Microsoft's Office suite sucked beyond belief until the 4.x versions arrived. This is not a bad effort at all. [alert admin]

Acquisition 112.3 (Mac OS X)

golucid - try this

1) Trash the ~/Library/Application Support/Acquisition/ directory. 2) Repair your file permissions: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 3) Try again. These were the instructions I received from the developer. I did #1 by itself and the problem was fixed without needing to reinstall the app. Good luck! [alert admin]

Wireless Explorer 2.0. OS X.3.4. No problems at all. All of the buttons work perfectly. Weird that it requires a restart, but what can ya do? [alert admin]

Entourage Email Archive X 1.8.1 (Mac OS X)

Fantastic application

Haven't tried the Finder export feature, but it works very well for saving attachments and exporting messages to Filemaker. I had trouble with the OS9 version, specifically with the registration method. It kept "forgetting" that it was registered. The OSX version seems very solid and does not have that flaw. Well worth the upgrade price. ...now if it could only be faster... ;-) [alert admin]

Double mail

Any chance you are leaving the messages on the server? This might be why it is getting confused. I've never had this problem with my ISP, but using FreePOPs and Yahoo mail, I had it all the time. FYI, there is a script that will remove duplicates from Entourage. Ff you can't find it, let me know where to mail it and I'll send it to you.

What more could one wish for?

I agree it's a good value. I bought it only recently so some of its quirks are most likely my ignorance. The docs are decent and I'm building a pretty large and complex forecasting model without much trouble. The area I've struggled with most is time. I think about it they way it works with Hyperion Essbase, and can't figure out how (yet) to make Quantrix work the way I want…

Found things I was not looking for

This won't get rid of all the spam, but it will help quite a bit: get Peer Guardian 2. Also, you can right-click on the spam results and tell Acquisition to ignore them.

Problems abound...

I had some problems with this version when I first installed it, but I downloaded the latest Java update for Tiger, did the DiskWarrior thing, repaired permissions, etc., and now everything is working perfectly. I haven't tried a torrent yet, but gnutella is fine. The partial downloads that got fried before continue where they left off once I search for and attempt to re-download them. I tend to also skip several updates at a…

still can't repair permissions

The workaround seems to be to drag iTunes to your desktop (or maybe just out of the Applications folder) and then do the permissions repair. Afterward, you can just drag iTunes back and continue as normal.

buggy

Check to make sure your file path and file do not contain spaces or funky characters. Moving and/or renaming files has resolved this issue for me in the past. Good luck!

Consistently not useable

It could be that something is hosed in your Java installation. The *only* time I ever had a problem with Limewire in the past two years or so, it turned out that the fix was to re-apply the most recent Java update.

Actually, it is $19...

The higher price includes Epson FX-80 emulation and memory expansion capability. For games, the limited license is fine and weighs in at $19. Not bad for an excellent emulator that is being maintained and enhanced.

Great app! but some major bug?

It sounds like you might have something wrong with your installation or your machine. You might want to download it again in case you have some file corruption. I have used the features you're having trouble with and not experienced the behaviors you describe. I give it more than 100,000k of RAM to play with and have been working this app hard for several days. A quick check with DiskWarrior, etc. and a…
