I tried the Danish-English and English-Danish dictionaries. These are languages I would expect the author, being an Icelander, to have some familiarity with. Unfortunately, I found them full of the most elementary errors, even given the fact that only a small fraction is available for unregistered users to browse. To pick an entry at random, 'a clear thinker' is rendered by *en klart tænke* (should be *en klar tænker*), which is easly confused with *en klar tanke*, 'a clear thought'. Unless the other dictionaries are substantially better than this, I cannot recommend it at all. [alert admin]

I was able to select a Welsh keyboard layout while running this app but could not get the Unicode Welsh characters to appear. (I tried the same thing with Norwegian and had no problem.) Someone suggested below that this was because it was written to Carbon APIs (in RealBasic?) rather than Cocoa, but Carbon has the Multilingual Text Engine (MLTE), which, as I understand it, handles international text just as well as its Cocoa equivalent. Other than that, this looks like a decent and well presented app, considering it's freeware. [alert admin]

The data are based on Kunnskapforlaget's *Blå ordbok*, which is a quite useful Norwegian-English dictionary. In previous versions, all Norwegian words beginning with the letter 'y' were missing, but this version hsppily restores them. However, many other serious bugs remain, including one that causes Norwegian headwords not to be listed in Norwegian alphabetical order. As another poster has noted, support is haphazard at best. The best thing about this application is the price, which would be great value for money, if only the application worked as expected. [alert admin]

ICQ 3.2 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
outgoing file transfer for me, so I had to revert to build 5, which is pretty good. [alert admin]

appearing, and there is no increase in stability. I do hope the author is not now finding himself out of his depth. [alert admin]

OroborOSX 0.8beta2 (Mac OS X)
impressive stuff. I'm only worried that the author may be trying to introduce too many new features all at once. For the person complaining about xterm under Jaguar: Jaguar isn't out yet and is only available to select developers. It's unreasonable to expect an application to support an environment that's not yet available to the public. In any case, this is a not a problem with OroborOSX itself. [alert admin]

F-Script 1.1 (Mac OS X)
interesting and innovative concept, and the language and browser seem well implemented. However, it doesn't allow you to define your own classes and methods in the language itself (you have to code them in Objective-C), and the procedure for loading code from a file is laborious. I think I shall find it quite useful, though. [alert admin]

OmniWeb 4.1b1 (Mac OS X)
going for how long?...and it still needs a lot of work. I'd be willing to pay for this if only it were well ahead of the competition, but, unfortunately, there's little sign of that. I give it three stars because it is showing some improvement. [alert admin]

I've just played it. Sounded all right to me. I wonder what the problem is.

Unfortunately, the poster is right. I have made many detailed bug reports to Ultralingua about one of their products, and they have yet to address any of them with the necessary seriousness. (All faults are apparently due to outside suppliers.)
