AlmostVPN 0.9.3 (Mac OS X)
To People who do not reboot very often
If you have not reboot since you upgrade to 0.9.3, you might experience some difficulties. Some of the temporary files created by AlmostVPN which used to be own by root, now owned by you and as a result AlmostVPN can not overwrite it. To solve the problem, please delete all files like this /tmp/almostvpn*. Or you can reboot. Sorry for inconvenience [alert admin]

AlmostVPN 0.9.3 (Mac OS X)
To people without ~/Library/Keychain/login.keychain.
It looks like quite a few people having keychain other then "login.keychain" as a default keychain. Unfortunately AlmostVPN 0.9.3 is not smart enough to look for "a default" keychain it always looking for "login.keychain". I will fix this problem in 0.9.4 release, meanwhile - you can just create new keychain name it "login.keychain" and it should make AlmostVPN happy. Sorry for inconvenience. [alert admin]

AlmostVPN 0.9.2 (Mac OS X)
AlmostVPN and Case Sensitive File Systems
AlmostVPN and Case Sensitive File Systems: If you have "Case Sensitive File System" and keep receiving errors "password expected" and/or "passphrase expected" it might be due to the fact that one of the support executables has incorrect casing. Look inside AlmostVPN.prefPane (Use "Show Package Content" menu). Make sure that file Contents/Resources/almostVPNTool has name "almostVPNTool" ( and not AlmostVPNTool). Also, while you there, make sure that all *.sh files are lower case. This problem should be rectified with next release (0.9.3) [alert admin]

Extremely complicated UI, bugs
merrillfb, I will be more than happy to help you with any problem you may have with AVPN 1.0, the only bug I can not fix is the one I never heard about. Please e-mail me at support@leapingbytes.com. AVPN 1.0 is very different from 0.9. I wonder if you form your opinion about complexity of the GUI with or without benefits of looking into User Manual, How-Tos and screen-cast movies? -- http://www.leapingbytes.com/documents/almostvpn1.0/AVPNUserManual --…

Thanks for pointing my attention to this product. I will think about it, but my first reaction was that is it not really something to get embedded into AlmostVPN. AlmostVPN using standard mechanism (SSH) to do "VPN impersonation" :-). It does not require for anything but standard SSHD to be installed on "other end". Hamachi on other side, will only work if you have another Hamachi installed on "other end". My other concern is…

Are you using "uppercase" letters in host names? Try to change it to all lower case. It might help.

What seems to be the problem? I have upgraded to 10.4.5 and so far all tests work as well as they were with 10.4.4. Could you please go to AlmostVPN and open a trouble ticket with description of the problem you are having? Andrei Tchijov LeapingBytes, LLC

Glad to hear that you like it, but do not want you to have wrong idea about the product. AlmostVPN is Almost (but not quite) VPN. Real VPN can do many things AlmostVPN can't, but luckily in many situations you do not really need 'Real' one and 'Almost' is quite good enough Andrei Tchijov Leaping Bytes, LLC

It IS Almost(but not quite)VPN.
It is after all Almost(but not quite)VPN :-). Nonetheless, it is quite surprising how much of VPN functionality could be replaced with few SSH tunnels.

Great Concept - slightly rickety
Excesive CPU consumption was due to the problem with initial value for "Timeout" option. See Ticket: #83.
Fixed is available as "hot release" 0.9.5+. It will become part of official build 0.9.6.
