VLC media player 0.9.3 (Mac OS X)
I love the fact that VLC is capable of decoding almost any format. But watching – or better said: navigating through – DVDs is nightmare. Where is the controller? There are no buttons to return to the DVD menu, to skip DVD tracks/titles, toggle between languages or subtitles. Also the Fast Forward and Fast Rewind are much too fast/too sensitive. These buttons must accelerate over time, otherwise it’s impossible to navigate precisely. [alert admin]

TopCalculette Pro 7.0f3 (Mac OS X)
Will we ever see native Intel-support?
This is my favorite calculator, but why, oh why doesn’t it still run natively on Intel Macs? According to the Finder’s Info box it is PPC only, which means it runs under Rosetta on Intel = SLOW! On my MacBook it is often unresponsive with delays of up to a second, which means you sometimes can’t enter calculations as fast as you want. Or better said: you can enter them fast, but don’t get immediate feedback on the screen. Very annoying. [alert admin]

Barcode Toolbox 3.6 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
Does work with Illustrator CS3 Intel!
The trick is that you have to temporarily run Illustrator in Rosetta mode (= PPC emulation on Intel), otherwise the Barcode Toolbox plug-in won’t load. Select the Illustrator app icon -> Get Info -> Check "Open using Rosetta". Remember to uncheck "Open using Rosetta" once you’re done with your barcode creation, in order to gain back full Intel-speed. [alert admin]

Same problem as reported below over here. List items come and go. You can make them reappear by moving other list items to a different folder. Nasty bug, with no way to fix it on your own, no workaround. I first thought the database file was broken, so I re-imported it, even tried it using copy & paste. But: It the app which is broken, not my database, cause the problem reoccurs. And worst of all: I've emailed about 5 detailed bug reports to the developer and never got a reply! [alert admin]

FontAgent Pro 3.0.2 (Mac OS X)
Much better than Suitcase, but ...
has some problems with FileMaker Pro (at least FMP 6), where certain fonts don't show up, where they do with Suitcase. [alert admin]

Apple iTunes 5.0 (Mac OS X)
Crash on updating killed entire library
On updating the music library from iTunes 4 to iTunes 5, it crashed. Relaunched iTunes - entire library was gone (= iTunes is empty, as the library file was destroyed. Music still on the harddrive). Thankfully I have a backup on another harddisk. [alert admin]

Doodim 1.0 (Mac OS X)
As lmb wrote: one can't switch between application by simply clicking into another app’s window. This makes the app almost useless. The competing app 'FocusLayer' (which is end-of-life, but still can be found via Google) works flawlessly. I wish Apple would built this feature directly into Mac OS X. [alert admin]

Process 1.1 (Mac OS X)
I've tried and used all available outliners for Mac OS X, but Process is the one which appears to be more Mac-like than any other app. After using OmniOutliner for quite a long time, I've switched to iOrganize more than a year a ago. iOrganize is nice as it supports tabs (which OmniOutliner doesn't), but when I first saw Process I had to switch immediately. The user experience is so much better! As I said: a real gem! Almost perfect! 4.8 out 5 [alert admin]

You might have to install an older version of Timbuktu on the remote-machine to be able to control pre-PPC machines. I've used Timbuktu in the past to control a fax server which was running on an LC 475, which uses an 68040. Unfortunately I can't recall which version that was... Ask Netopia (Timbuktu manufacturer) which version to use and how to obtain a license. Greetings, André
