FairMount 1.0.2 (Mac OS X)
I couldn't get it to recognize any DVD's no matter what I did. I followed the manual to the end and nothing. VLC plays the DVD's without a hitch, MTR identifies them as well, but this program just sat there. Couldn't drag and drop as it would accept nothing. MTR is still the best. [alert admin]

Apple Mac OS X 10.5.2 (Mac OS X)
I've been reading the MacFixit website with all the small problems users have been having with this update. I followed the instructions on a Mac Mini Intel and a MacBook Pro and both are quicker, in all aspects from starting up to shutting down. An excellent update that should have been there from the beginning. The only problem they didn't fix for me was the IR remote still doesn't work on the Mac Mini and the Mail beep comes and goes. Sounds like a simple problem doesn't it Apple? [alert admin]

HierarchicalDock 1.2 (Mac OS X)
On my Mac Mini 2.0 Ghz, I find that ejecting DVD's and disk images take 5 to 10 seconds with this program running. Seems to load down the FInder. Uses excessive CPU time. Since deleting it, my computer is now more responsive. However, it's a nice program and the next Leopard update should include something of the type. [alert admin]

VMware Fusion 1.1.1 (Mac OS X)
Thinking, I was getting better product then Parallels (I have both), I was not. Shared Folders is a real pain, and I have not gotten them to work yet Customer Support is worthless and non-existent. Not even email support. Not as many options as Parallels in the preferences and settings Still buggy A bit faster then Parallels, because it uses both processors while parallels does not. I although I don't understand why. Save your money use Parallels until it becomes more transparent to the user. [alert admin]

Wx 5.16 (Mac OS X)
I love this program! The support from the author is excellent. As a pilot I have all my localities loaded, prognostic charts, and other useful flight information. Allows for METARs, TAFs and upper wind currents as well. All this in one program. Use it with Leopards spaces and have the weather at the push of a button. Great support. Needs a travel/flight planner and it'll be the only weather program you'll need. I wrote the same program with Applescript, but WX has a lot more to offer. Even works with the iPhone. [alert admin]

X-Plane 9.00 beta 4 (Mac OS X)
As a pilot I use X-Plane on a PC desktop (because there're cheap). This version has the best provided aircraft and aircraft instrument panels of all the versions. Detail is much better in all aspects. Lines are smoother, blending looks good. Usability has a decent frame rate. Haven't tried the G1000 *censored*pits yet, this will make or break X-Plane as MS Flight Simulator X has an excellent G1000 *censored*pit display including weather and traffic. Unfortunately, it takes a super computer to run it. Scenery is getting better with every version of X-Plane and this version appears to have the best scenery. I couldn't find any roads or highways to check for accuracy, but the mountains, rivers and lakes seem to be up to par. Still checking some of the finer details of instrument flight and aerodynamics. One bug I found was the Cirrus "The Jet" landing lights can be seen under the wings of the aircraft when it flies over head. It's still beta. [alert admin]

Parallels Desktop 3.0 Build 5580 (Mac OS X)
I mainly use Parallels for pilot software that is not available for Mac's. Works fine, still lags behind an equivalent PC. Would be faster and a true seller if it would access both Intel cores. I've tried the competition, but always come back to Parallels. I'll give it five (5) stars when it goes dual-core. [alert admin]

OnyX 1.8.4b (Mac OS X)
I performed a CRON and cache and scripts run. That was all she wrote. HD never came up again. I wouldn't chance it until some tells me that it is no longer beta. I'm really gun shy now. The only thing I would use it for is repair permissions. When it works, it's a great app! [alert admin]

Parallels Desktop 3.0 Build 5144.0 (Mac OS X)
From my test, this build made a great leap in speed on an (Intel) Mac Mini. The program loads quicker, shuts down quicker too. Graphics and moving windows around in coherence mode is about the same with a small bit of lag time. Still not as fast as Fusionware's. I put the Windows menu bar at the top of the screen where it is out of the way. One thing I tried was Internet Explorer. IE for Windows using Parallels runs faster then Safari for my Mac. Although the page I was rendering may have been built for IE. On a particular aviation weather website the radar image in IE is displayed instantaneously, while in Safari I can see it draw the picture in about a second. Thought it was unique that the virtualization browser was quicker then the native one. I just wish that Parallels supported dual core not just single. I have been told it is planned. [alert admin]

Apple Audio Update 2007-001 (Mac OS X)
Apple thanks for listening to the masses and being prompt with your response. Next time beta test a little better and save yourself some time and effort. [alert admin]
