PithHelmet 3.0b1 (Mac OS X)
Is it working for anybody…?!
Yeah, I get that it's a beta version and I don't mind that the prefs are not accessible right now -- but is it actually doing anything at all…?! All it does for me is put the helmet icon into my menu bar, but it doesn't seem to be blocking any ads on any websites… [alert admin]

Safari AdBlock 0.4.0 RC3 (Mac OS X)
They say they added 10.6 support in this version but it doesn't actually work at all with 10.6 and Safari 4.03 -- it doesn't even show up in Safari's preference settings…!?! It's like it didn't even install although it seemed to…!? Pretty useless right now… [alert admin]

Xtorrent 2.0 (v75) (Mac OS X)
Your mileage may vary, but I really don't think that Xtorrent is junk…but then again, most of these rantings seem to come from people who don't even use it but just despise the developer in general…!?
Anyway, I'm not here to rate Mr. Watanabe -- he may be a jerk or or scoundrel or not, I don't really know because I never had any kinds of problems with him, although I understand that for many people that's a big issue…but personally I don't really care…
Nevertheless, for me Xtorrent is one of the best torrent clients on the market, albeit a bit overpriced, but the integrated search and RSS features fit my needs and I have always been very pleased with it…! It's sleek, fast, efficient and well-designed and it's sad that people keep bashing it just because they hold a grudge against the developer… [alert admin]

GlimmerBlocker 1.3.2 (Mac OS X)
I thought this was an ad-blocker...?!
It only seems to block a few animations, but about 80% of advertising is still all over the pages...!? Maybe I need to configer it all myself, but if it doesn't work "out of the box" I'd rather use something else... [alert admin]

Warranty Hero 1.0 (Mac OS X)
But here's another European (or rather German) company that just neglects including international localization...! I'm so sick of that kind of lazyness...! (Spricht man in Aschaffenburg kein Deutsch mehr...?!?)
And if you really think that you have to be all cool and keep everything in English, then at least get a dictionary and correct the gazillion mistakes all over your website...! Jeez, people, you're emberassing yourself... [alert admin]

PithHelmet 2.8.3a (Mac OS X)
Crashes Safari 3.2 (5525.26.12)
The most recent version of Safari 3.2 (5525.26.12) keeps crashing with PithHelmet installed...can you please, please fix this...?! All those ads...driving me nuts...!! Aaargh...!! Thanks in advance...!! :) [alert admin]

Point-O-Mat 1.2 (Mac OS X)
It does what it says and it lets you choose between the different formulas -- and it's free...! And from what I know it is the only WW Points calculator for the Mac...! :)
But I must say that it is a bit sad that even a German developer doesn't bother localizing his own app...it adds to the user experience, you know?! Even for a simple app like this... [alert admin]

It's all been said before, so I don't want to get into it again -- and Thorsten Lemke doesn't really seem to care about the criticism anyway...
Or maybe he just doesn't know where to start if he actually were to re-design the app...?!
But then again, what's the alternative to GC?!? So far I haven't found any...there's a few picture viewers that don't do more than the Preview app and a few self-proclaimed image editors like Acorn etc, which mostly shine with the kind of pretty interface that GC is s sorely missing...but I haven't found any app that could replace GC for me yet...
Anyway, once again it has to be said though -- GC needs a major overhaul and considering the price tag and the money the developer has (deservedly) made it should happen real soon...! [alert admin]

Logitech Harmony Remote 7.5.0 (Mac OS X)
What's wrong with those people, why the *beep* do they scatter their files and folders all over my Mac in such a redundant way...?!? Will they ever clean up their act...?! I don't want to have two Logitech remote apps, combine them into one package...!!! I don't want to have several Logitech folders on my Mac, put your stuff into one folder and then move it to Application Support or somewhere else, out of my sight...!! Is this really so difficult...?!? [alert admin]

Xtorrent 1.1 (53) (Mac OS X)
I really enjoyed using this app until last January or so I mentioned that it had been banned from many sites, due to the fact that it was using old, unsecure and unreliable Transmission code -- so I contacted the developer and he said it wasn't much of a deal, he just had to update the libraries etc. and then would post an update...
Only he never did...!!! I haven't been able to use Xtorrent for over a year now and as it now turns out he doesn't even bother anymore, since he stopped development on it...!?! Before that I alwaays thought that the negative comments and reviews about him were a bit over the top, but I can understand them now...!
Just like he promised bloggers who would write about NewsFire a preview of the new version by the end of last year -- it never happened...!
It's kind of sad though, I liked using Xtorrent, espcially for the included RSS reader...but just like so many others I will from now on stay away from any software Mr. Watanabe may publish...! [alert admin]

I may be nitpicking here, but to me that's the same as "doesn't work with 10.6"…! :(

Oh, and also the fix only works if you already had PithHelmet installed before updating to Safari 4…! If you download it now and try to install it won‘t let you… :(((

If it's really that easy (and it may not be for the many people not as tech-savvy as many of you) it's actually a bit sad that the developer doesn't seem to bother providing a fixed version…!? :(

Actually there's already been a solid German translation posted in the forums many months ago, but the devs just neglect including it with the app...! But if you want to mess around with the package you can insert it yourself...

Well, I remember the dev promising people who'd blog about NewsFire a sneak peak of version 2 by the end of last year -- of course it never happened...! Still no sign of a new version and he never answered any questions about it either...

Oh man, VT really need sto fix their comment feature -- either your comment gets uploaded several times or it just disappears...!? My lengthy reply just vanished...!? :(
Anyway, I'll keep it shorter this time then...so thanks again for your reply!
I didn't mean to imply that you actually "tricked" anybody, it just would have been nice to get some advanced warning before the update...

Thanks again for your replies!
I didn't mean to imply that you were tricking people into updating, it's just that an advanced warning would have been nice! Also I feel that the upgrade rebate isn't really too tempting cnsidering the price of the app, but then again that's just my personal point of view, of course...
Anyway, as good and convenient as the app is, I'll just have to decide if it's worth that price for me...but…
