Could be that Snow Leopard is part of the problem. I installed SL and found my MacBook Pro could no longer talk to Firewire drives. And guess what's on those. Yep, all my Time Machine backups. Thanks, Apple. That's a MAJOR bug.

Given the comment earlier about syncing twice and it would work, I decided to sync relentlessly. After the six time it worked. Seems to work okay now. RELIEF!
