QT 7 (7.6.4) on Snow Leopard - cbmfmts02

Yea, what's the deal with that? I didn't see anything obvious on the Apple download page.

NOT TRUE, 10.6 does not require the old QuickTime for anything. Prove me wrong with a source stating otherwise.

"For the full use of itunes 9.0 QT 7.6.4 is required"

100% false statement. That should make iTunes inoperable/crippleware and from my experience I see it is not the case.

There's got to be some mistake here:
On my iMac running Snow Leopard, VersionTracker incorrectly recognizes QuickTime Player 10.0 as version 7.6.2.

Here's another curious observation:
Apparently the Snow Leopard installer not only installed QuickTime Player 10.0 in the Applications folder, but it also moved the existing QuickTime Player 7.6.3 from the Applications folder to the Utilities folder and removed the QuickTime preferences panel. I'm wondering if there is any reason to keep QuickTime Player 7.6.3 in the Utilities folder. If so, should it be updated to QuickTime Player 7.6.4?

What a shambles! And for the first time ever (since its introduction) iTunes (now version 9) has just crashed on me. Is it April 1st?

A possibility is to open the installer package with Pacifist and drag the application from Pacifist to the desktop.

Another way is the method I used: I have an older PPC PowerMac running OS 10.5.8. I followed the Software Update method, then copied the file over to my MacBook Pro which runs OS 10.6.
