Link to previous (''free'') MainMenu still active today - summerstormpictures

The download link for the original free version of MainMenu is still active. Hopefully someone else will provide another link by tomorrow.

(you will probably have to copy and paste the above into your browser)

I would also go to your user Library/Preferences folder and delete ''com.santasw.MainMenu.plist'' before running the old version just in case there is some disabling code of some sort insinuated by the ''new'' version.

Also, I suggest you disable automatically checking for new version. This should bring you back to the glory days of the one and only ''real'' MainMenu.

If it wasn't broken ... - imageworx

I am glad I am not the only one disappointed by this update. Seems that Creativebe "acquired" Main Menu from santasw.com. Their "about" page mentions they are in the market to acquire mac applications.
I am disappointed in Santasw. Not so much as selling out (congratulations! You sold your product!) but in that I had donated money for how much I liked/used it, then this. Gone. No notice. And to top it off, re-made into $20 nagware.
I will not part with $20 until I know it's good, entitles me to several upgrades (not updates) without further payment. And stop the nagware already.
Alas, I am glad I kept the older version around.

If it wasn't broken ... - lsg11

Guys -- here's what really happened: The guy who built MainMenu got out of the business -- he couldn't keep developing it. For a long time he had a note on his site saying that the rights to the software were up for sale. The people who are selling it now paid him some amount of money to be able to get the rights to the software ... and these people want to charge for it, unlike the guy who developed it.
