You are incorrect, OpenOffice DOES require X11, as stated in OpenOffice v. 3.0.1's VersionTracker webpage, "In order to use OpenOffice, you first have to download and install the latest build of X11 from Apple."

OpenOffice v3 - LMaui

Have you seen OO v3?

If nothing else the interface is much more Mac like in Neo Office.

OO is like a throwback to old windows software.

I see you've not been using Neo very long: stick with it, check their discussion forums to see for yourself how amazing the developers' responsiveness is. These guys know Macs every which way. OO is certainly good and it is, of course, the basis of Neo. But OO is Windows first, Linux second, and Mac only third.
