Drive Genius is an award winning product - Prosoft Engineering

Hi there,

Let us address your concerns about Drive Genius 2. We have thousands of customers running Defrag and the other tools in Leopard with Drive Genius 2. With that said, disk utilities can indeed sometimes uncover issues with a drive that you had thought was "working fine" before you run defrag. There are even people today that are calling Apple because the latest OS Update may have caused their drive to crash (it's the unfortunate nature of software)..No matter what, there are times when software can cause an issue.

The good news is that Drive Genius is an award-winning product used even by Apple around the world (to defrag drives in the Genius Bar). The rate of problems is very low, but like all software, the risk is something that can never be completely eradicated. However, knowing this, we've included a great Clone feature in Drive Genius. We always recommend cloning your drive before doing maintenance on it. The clone is a complete device copy, so should something go wrong, you can restore right from the clone.

If you continue to have issues with Drive Genius or just have some questions for us, please do contact us! (support and general contact info available at our site).

Best Regards,

David Holt

Drive Genius Defrag killed my Leopard boot drive! - G-mac

Ditto here, award-winning or not - it was a total pain in my rear for a week. My situation was complicated by the fact I had a RAID (hardware), and the fine print somewhere said "not for use with RAID" - on page 86 of the manual in the "Q&A" section! (mind you, its an online manual). The program dutifully ran the defrag and said "successful" - no idea what it was doing, but I had hard drive salad when it was done. Trying to reconstruct from my mirror didn't work, I had to time machine back only to deal with THOSE headaches.

IMHO, if its not going to work with RAIDs, it should recognize them somehow (I had a little "RAID" icon on the screen in the program) and not LET us common folk even try. Apparently the whole piece of software is useless for RAID, wasted my money here.

Another dissatisfied user with drive with 300GB of corruption after defrag. Now running a long recovery procedure that will take 2 days. stay away from this app...I hear iDefrag is the ONLY way to go.
