You can download from YouTube using Safari's Activity window and if you append "&fmt=18" to the end of the URL you get the iPhone QT compatible version too!

Yes, but it should ask you whether you want huge files downloaded.
It should not install itself as a default player without asking you, and
almost Windows-like, hides the files and makes symbolic links.
