These standards you speak of - they are Windows standards. Command is the Apple standard modifier for the Mac operating system. Therefore, NeoOffice is correct.

Microsoft Word uses Command, not Alt. Ditto Firefox. And Photoshop. And every other cross-platform program. No Mac app should EVER use Alt as its primary modifier.

Mac versus MS keyboard shortcuts - Krioni

The original comment is confusing. It correctly points out that a standard Mac keyboard shortcut to move left or right by one word is option-LeftArrow or option-RightArrow. The comment responding that option is not the correct modifier clearly didn't understand this. Go into TextEdit or ANY Cocoa app made by Apple (or anyone else), put in some text, then see what option-LeftArrow or RightArrow do. If NeoOffice doesn't do this properly, that is disappointing.

However, the original comment then seems to say that OpenOffice doesn't do this either, but instead follows some MS standard keyboard commands. Microsoft applications on the Mac generally follow Mac text-editing and navigating shortcuts (although Page Up and Down move the cursor rather than just what part of the document you're viewing).

So, I'm not sure what the original commenter (Ulrich, I think it was) meant about OpenOffice, but he was certainly right that NeoOffice using command-Left to move one word to the left was NOT a Mac behavior. The comment disputing that is provably wrong to anyone who has a Mac.

May or not be correct, but the comments here refer to entirely non-essential aspects of NeoOffice v. OpenOffice or v. any MAC OS X app.
