People are still using this....'pointlessware'?! - baddawg65

Macs for the most part are secure but not "bulletproof". There will never be a system that is truly "bulletproof", except one that not connected to the network or have any input ports so no new information can be entered. I know there are a bunch of proof of concept vulnerabilities that haven't made it to "prime time" but they exist. Also most these proof of concept have been patched by Apple and other manufactures but there are still vulnerbilties out there. The most recent one is with Adobe Flash and any internet browser:

Right now most of the malware writers are concentrating on MS Windows for the biggest bang for the buck but as Macs get more market share we will get a share of that crap.
Moreover, with the release of Intel Macs and CrossOver, WINE, Parallels or VMware that can host other operating system like MS Windows which these malware can infect these guest system possibly affect the host system also. For example, a piece of malware that erases all data from you drives and now you have CrossOver or WINE which has MS Windows on your system and you drives are shared by this system so what will happen when malware launches? It will erase your Mac system drive also.
Also we should stop other system malware, if possible, as good corporate citizens even though it doesn't directly affect us.
Symantec is not perfect but is good way to stop most malware as part of good defense.
