I have heard from the developer, or at least one of his team. He suggested I turn off the contextual menu. When I did this, Eclipse started working properly.
His suggestion was not considered a solution to the problem, but a workaround for now. That's good. I can live without the contextual menu, for now.
I'm not sure how tricky this will be to fix, but I'm certain it needs fixing. It's not just Eclipse that's affected.
