Worst hack ever made by Apple - thegeek2

"Basicaly, when using the Bootcamp installer as is, you'll be able to install Windows, but then you'll end-up with a disk error when Windows boots, because Bootcamp does a partition and only "fakes" the proper Windows formatting."

This is not true. Boot Camp does a normal MBR partition table next to it's own, so Windows sees all of the primary partitions as it should. If you get a disk error, it's because you did it wrong. (I manually partition all the time and it's always worked fine if done right.) Legacy boot support in the BIOS only works for the last logical volume. If you put Windows on anything else you get the HAL error. Install Leopard, then use the Boot camp assistant to partition if you don't know how to do it properly yourself.

I get exactly the same issue.
brand new MBP with the high res screen and new multi touchpad.
I have been running XP SP 2 on my Mac Pro with very few problems (besides the usual windows ones) and it has been awesome.
I tried installing XP through the new 'complete' Boot Camp 4 times and each time it brings up the same message.

"disk read error"
and you have to force reboot.
how has this not been tested...?

good work apple.
I guess you can't expect to do too much on a $4000 laptop ; )

No, if you follow the instructions, you won't run into the "hal.dll" issue... format the partition called "Bootcamp" and don't delete any of the other partitions. The boot support you need is in those other partitions. If you delete or remove them, you'll have the problem you describe.

Follow the instructions and it works just fine.

Besides, this is an updater and has nothing to do with Boot Camp installation whatsoever. You have to already have Windows installed to make use of this updater.

Troll somewhere else...

I am running a 20" iMac (Early 2006) with a Core Duo processor. I had absolutely no issues with the install of thereafter. If you follow the install instructions there should be no problems running anything.

I am in commercial and digital printing and have always done my heavy work on the Mac side. However I use Windows for other things (some light and some heavy duty processor loads). Most recently, my teenage son was diagnosed is a Type 1 diabetic. The software that monitors his insulin pump only runs on Windows. Even it runs flawlessly under Boot Camp. I have never seen XP runs as fast as it does when running natively. Apple did a great job with this and Microsoft could learn a few things here.
