Ok! I figured out what causes it... kind of - maboroshi

So when typing, if I type enough to make it wrap to the next line, the divider between the typing area and the message display drops all the way down so you can barely see what you are typing.

So thats how it happens.... but I still don't know why. (other than that its a bug)
