Response to: I hate it, hate it, hate it!!!!! - tricycle222_dotmac

I have always been able to specify which drives I want to test and exactly which tests I want to perform by checking boxes before I run the test. I have sometimes had the problem you mention, because I forgot to inspect the entire window to see the check boxes for my second and third drives which are not visible in the partial window view displayed. I perform the safety tests silently each night for peace of mind. I have been sleeping restlessly since I installed Leopard and have been unable to confirm that all is OK. I just ordered my upgrade today. The price is more than reasonable.

A great alternative is OnyX, and it's free. However, it's not yet compatible with Leopard.

I have also returned Techtool to the shop where I purchased the upgrade.

Before this MacBook I also used to be Diskwarrior but I havent tried the latest version....

At the moment I am using Onyx 1.8.5 on my MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo
2.2 GHz w Tiger OS 10.4.10.

As I am travelling around Europe on a motorbike and my MacBook, I really want a very stable and reliable setup which also handles El Gato EyeTV Hybrid (digital/analog TV) connecting to hotel antennas. Since everything works OK I will not upgrade my software yet.

I know what you mean.... One of my partitions on one of my internal drives would not mount, Tech Tools did the old run about with no solution. Apples Disk Utility would not mount it but recognized it & told me it was OK. Then I remembered that I had a copy of Disk Warrior & hey presto it mounted it & I'm happy that all my files were OK as there was a part of me that only imagined disaster. What I should do of course is to follow my own advice to people & back everything up.
