Prosoft Engineering Support - JAngeles

My name is John, and I am a technical support representative for Prosoft. Our tests have shown that Drive Genius is compatible with Leopard. I would like to obtain more information from you regarding your Defrag under Leopard. Please me directly at jangeles@prosofteng.com with any further information you can provide regarding your issue. Thank you.

Caution!!! -DO NOT USE DEFRAG IN LEOPARD!!! - mothra1_dotmac

I checked to see if it said Leopard compatible....and it did.

Same thing happened to me with a Lacie 250 GB Firewire HD I defragged. After the beautiful graphics of my defrag were done and I clicked "close", the HD was unmounted. I was able to find it in the menu of Volumes on the left BUT its name had been changed. THen, I tried to mount it from Disc Utility but it gave an error that I needed to "repair" it (which is something I already did before defragging it) first. I will call support tomorrow. Why cant these things do what they say they do without al the nightmares.

Caution!!! -DO NOT USE DEFRAG IN LEOPARD!!! - diablitos

I too have been greatly inconvenienced by this issue. Defragmentation does NOT work in Leopard if you do not boot from the CD, which as a lot of previous comments have indicated, is a colossal pain, often fails, and takes forever. I contacted the above engineer at Prosoft, after wasting money on an upgrade only to have this issue occur, and he replied to me quite promptly with a message indicating that Prosoft tested Defragmentation and it worked in Leopard. Given that to my knowledge no defragmentation program at all currently works in Leopard (look at the competitors' websites, where this issue is prominently addressed), how can that be? It's a kernel bug, an Apple issue. I responded to the engineer's message by laying out these points, and suggesting that they make this issue more prominent-- never heard back from him at all. See anything on this site to alert users? Disappointing.
