On my computer, the Finder crashes, probably 50% of the time cmd-alt-escape doesn't work, right clicking on "force quit" doesn't work. And finding the application in Activity Monitor takes too long.
I keep this script right next to Finder, so when Finder freezes, I can just click on this app. But you're right, if Finder freezes, and this isn't in your dock, then the only other way to open it is through spotlight.
