SuperDrive dead? - kamimac
It's unbelievable that Apple provided users with a faulty firmware update which killed off many people's Superdrives. Since then the firmware has been removed from the Apple's website and no solution has yet been provided! To my knowledge this problem wasn't even aknowledged by Apple, and given that they knew that the firmware was faulty to start with (otherwise they wouldn't have removed it), it just goes to show that Apple cares less and less about customer satisfaction. This behaviour is absolutely inexcusable!!!There has been a solution provided by a Mac user (ben11) that tried to repair Apple's blunder, and many people have reported success with his solution: http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?p=207704#207704
Good luck!

Did you apply the EFI firmware update first before applying the superdrive update? It says in requirements that the EFI firmware update is required for this update. Maybe you did, but I'm just asking as maybe you didn't and that is the problem...Monday, August 31 2009 @ 08:18 PM PDT

Sadly, this problem has been reported on the Macfixit site. Quoting from Macfixit:"Dozens if not hundreds of users are now reporting that SuperDrive Firmware Update 2.1 killed their optical drives, with the devices no longer reading media, nor accepting or ejecting."
