Another Update - that's 9 in a month, Don't Waste Ya Time Folks. - snailspace

I appreciate your honesty, and even though I liked the version of Vuescan that was on a recent MacFormat disk, I also thought $40 was a little steep. So, what do you recommend as an alternative?

Thanks.

I'm verifiably NOT related to the developer. I am a registered user, and think VueScan is great.

I cannot believe you have nothing better to do than to say horrible, petty things about such a useful piece of software.

I'm not the biggest fan of VueScan's interface (not very Mac-like), but it's nice to have an alternative to the abusive treatment by the companies that make scanners.

I'm glad Hamrick releases updates when they are ready. If you don't care, then ignore them. Otherwise, you're just pathetic.

Nothing better to do? - Strider72

He releases minor updates because there's no reason to hold them back. Somebody out there is probably waiting for that improvement to the one or two scanners that he just fixed... or whatever it is.

I don't download every update, but I do look at the Changes list and see if its something relating to me and the scanners (yes, plural) I use.

Ino friend of Ed's -- in fact, in correspondence I found him to be somewhat abrasive -- but he makes one _hell_ of a program. I'm a happy customer, and paid the "full bounty" to make sure I can use his updates in the future.

I'm neither the developer or a friend. I'd like you to honestly reveal your sources for your claims, because to libel the developer in this manner may be legally actionable.

I've found the frequent updates something I can easily ignore if I so choose. Like many others here, I purchased the software because it worked -- it could run my Umax Astra 1200c and my Nikon Coolscan III SCSI scanners in Jaguar, Panther and Tiger when the manufacturer's software fell far behind. Scratch that -- when the manufacture's software no longer functioned. Those scanners set me back over $1600 when I purchased them, and while time and computing technology marches on, my investment in that hardware wasn't 'disposable'. I don't have a huge budget for getting the latest gadget out there, and his software gave another 4 years of life to those products for less than 10% additional cost. The ROI has been excellent.

You, sir, have too much time on your hands to post such a mean diatribe. You owe the developer and this user an apology for attacking us. Your 'rating' is meaningless. Perhaps you would attack Microsoft for biweekly patches to their software, too?

While I respect your right to have an opinion, let me say the following;

I don't know the developer, never met him but I have exchanged a few e-mails,

The developer appears willing and able to respond to user requests for enhancements and/or tweaks. This is often related to specific hardware. This does result in 9 (or more) updates each month. I carefully review the 'what's new' and determine if I will use the latest update - usually I don't because I don't need it.

I've paid for the PRO version. One of the best investments I've ever made.

I ask you to sit down and have a think about your negative comments. This is a very good product, well supported and I would hate to lose it.
