There is probably over 100,000 fonts in existence. Could you imagine the stress that that would put on any computer if you were to LOAD (and therefore display) each font! Holy Moly!!
Unfortunately, there isn't one source for all fonts so there is no "font database" that exists. This is all part of the mayhem within the font world.

apparently you didn't check the dropdown menu where you can choose a folder instead of the system fonts...alternatively, you could put a folder of fonts temporarily into your user/library/fonts folder and it will find the subfolder in there. or put a subfolder with copies of your system fonts into the folder that houses all your other fonts to get all of them at once. i hope this is clear.
