I have a dual 1.42 (MDD), no troubles. Try re-running the most recent combo updater, then this update, see if that does it for ya.Friday, April 20 2007 @ 12:50 AM PDT

Try restarting is safe boot mode, with the shift key held down and then try to authenticate. Also try repairing your keychains with the Keychain Access utility.Friday, April 20 2007 @ 05:29 AM PDT

I have a PB running 10.4.9. The "security update" installed fine, but that was it. Upon reboot; I kept seeing the memory / build screen (Grey apple with spinning widget) for over 20 minutes. My blood was running hot and cold. Thank god I had applejack installed. I booted into single user mode and ran applejack. APPLEJACK is the only thing (besides a 6 week old backup) that saved my poor PB. APPLE wake up; this security patch was a pure POS.Friday, April 20 2007 @ 11:25 AM PDT

the authentication problem is finally solved!it comes from EyeTV MPEG Support.component in /Library/QuickTime. remove it and everything is back to normal. this was found out by savage and is documented at the macosxhints forum.

My GOD, I thought I was the only one with this issue. This happened to me after 10.4.9 was installed.
Exactly the same thing:
The Authentication Window disappears in 2 seconds and will not allow me to put the Password in.
I was on the phone with AppleCare for half an hour a few weeks ago and they did not help me AT ALL. All they said was reinstall the operating system.
I was going to wait for Leopard, but now it won't be out until the end of the year.
Please, Please: If anyone can figure out how to fix this, it would be great.
I would think it might be a preference file or something like that.
Thanks.
