of course theres a need. not everyone has that version or can download the update without paying over $100 for the latest version.

Also, only certain UVC webcams are supported natively.
iChatUSBCam is still needed to use any cameras that require macam or other 3rd party drivers.

DV camcorders - dreamcore

This software lets you plug your camcorder into a G3 and use that with iChat AV, etc.
