I have the same issues, and mine is PB G4 with 1.5 GHz.
Choppy and unusable.
Wrote to developer for no avail.

Yes, I think it's your processor. iRecord makes a 1min30sec movie, and it's size is 546MB! This means it has to write at a speed of 6MB per second which I can imagine is too much for your G3. Even my MacBook 2.0 Ghz 1GB RAM C2D hampers now and again. With iSquint I convert my movie from 546 to 13 MB!
