A worm or a rootkit can be installed on a mac via a trojan horse or by a brute force login via ssh or via httpd exploits if those services are enabled (by default they are not).

Worms, lkm, trojans? - etherite

There might not be any viruses, worms, rootkits etc that affect Macs - but it is irresponsible to ignore them if you are on a mixed network or use email. A Mac can still be a carrier for the viruses etc that affect Windoze machines.
