The point to having access to an encyclopedia is that it is much more likely that the FACTS have been checked and verified that are printed in the documents. It saves the user from having to search through trivial references to the supposed subject that may/often have little relation to the subject being researched. One of the most difficult tasks for students to understand is which links to pursue when researching a topic.

Why ? - omytisis

Because some of us can't always get to the internet when we need to look something up. If I'm working on a deadline and I'm en route somewhere or if I'm using my satellite DSL and the weather is bad, I can't get to Google. I would have killed for this two days ago when I needed information I couldn't look up.

Because it is a local resource. - Lickableunix

It provides a good old fashoned local resource, and in a uniquely WorldBook fashon: a condensed article (blurb-like) and is always available on my local hard drive, even if my computer is not connected to wifi or other www access. ('Like, wow, i'm in New Orleans and wi-fi is not everywhere, man; dig?. Peace.)
