If you have purchased QuickTime Pro 7.x, then you will not have to pay for the update to 7.1.3 or even the new 7.1.5. You would only need to pay again when you are updating to version 8 whenever that arrives. The only reason you would need to pay now, is if you were using Quicktime Pro 6.x or earlier.

Any updates of Quicktime should not affect its features or performance, and there is charge for updates.

The answer is no you don't pay again as long as you have Pro in previous version of 7X.
I never use the Software Updater so here is what I.
I download the Stand Alone update of Quicktime (that is that one that says "Free Downlaod" NOT the one that says "Upgrade now"). Run the install and it will require a restart. After restart open Quicktime and check Quicktime Preferences and click on "registration". In the Registration Code block your code should show up and and just below that it should state the it is Quicktime Pro.
As long as you already have Pro it will stay the same through the incremental updates. In other words 7.1 thru 7.9 and when a major update , I.E. Version 8 comes along, then you pay the $29 again.
As a side note, I alway repair permissions before and immediately after all updates.
To be safe, you should copy the registration code of whatever version in 7 you have running and if the code isn't there when you update plug in the code and it should work. I have only had to do that one time on an update to get Pro working. And I update everytime.
