Actually, I don't know the answer to your question, but honestly: I doubt it. Of course, it might also depend on the specific disc you're trying to back-up.

I'd recommend to use Apple's Disk Utility to create a disk image of your purchased disk ("File->New->Disk Image from diskxx"), using the "CD/DVD master" type instead of the "compressed" type which is used by the CreateDiskImage tool.

After all, you will have to try and find out on your own; please do not hesitate to post your findings to this site as well, though.
