Hmmm,so is it GE Magellan or all the other stuff that's wrong or did someone play with the aatellite images to make the house in the wrong place. And who's human error is it? No, this comment isn't helpful or logical either is it?Monday, January 08 2007 @ 12:56 PM PST
Space Time warp... - Phoenix DownUnder
Could be a problem with the Space Time continuum - I'd have a chat with Einstein... I'd always come in from the East then you'd always be on holiday... (sorry couldn't resist)Monday, January 08 2007 @ 01:18 PM PST

From Wikipedia"The GPS includes a feature called Selective Availability (SA) that introduces intentional errors between 0 meters and up to a hundred meters (300 ft) into the publicly available navigation signals, making it difficult to use for guiding long range missiles to precise targets. Additional accuracy was available in the signal, but in an encrypted form that was only available to the United States military, its allies and a few others, mostly government users."

The data maintained by the county is probably off for your street. Possibly a data entry error at some point in the process or surveyor's mistake. Remember that a GPS satellite has no idea what your house number is. Coordinates have to matched from a ground-based survey of the streets. This is extrpolated from GPS readings from surveyors, property lines, aerial photography, etc, depending on where you live.Monday, January 08 2007 @ 02:15 PM PST

My house too! I ended up tracking down http://mapreporter.navteq.com where I summarily reported the error. They responded after about four months with a basic form letter (email) saying, "You're wrong and thank you for playing." On the bright side, if the police are looking for you at least you get a few minutes head start.Monday, January 08 2007 @ 02:26 PM PST

The comment below from inferno2000 about Selective Availability (SA) missed something improtant: Selective Availability was cancelled in 2000, so it no longer applies. This info was in the paragraph just after the one inferno2000 quoted. So, SA is not the reason your house is geopositioned one down from its correct location -- that's the fault of human error.Monday, January 08 2007 @ 03:41 PM PST

The only remedy is to buy the house next door. If you lived there, you'd be home by now!Tuesday, January 09 2007 @ 03:42 PM PST
