I'm afraid I can hardly follow your comment. What exactly are you complaining about, other than apparently multiprotocol messengers in general are about to die? (Actually, they seem to be becoming even more popular, as most people use multiple services.) Any actual constructive comments would be helpful, but vague complaints are not useful.

Fire does not handle Lotus Sametime protocol, Adium does. Game over, Fire loses. We use Sametime at work and therefore Adium, as the best Sametime client we've found for MacOS X, is our one and only chat client. If any of you Fire fans want to go add Sametime support (unlikely, as Fire does not seem to have been updated for 1 whole year), be my guest. Until you do, Adium is the best IM client for Mac.

That's kinda funny. I switched away from Fire, to AdiumX, because Fire was unstable, had poor support for the protocols it carries, and only had one protocol that Adium didn't: IRC. And, frankly, IRC wasn't worth the hastle.

Fire's Jabber support was terrible. It actually crashed more than once. That was the breaking point for me. Adium supported all of the protocols I use (AIM, Yahoo, MSN, Jabber), and did so with stability and grace. Fire was a ball of bugs.
