I too have the exact same problem with exactly the same hardware setup.

My computer shut down due to lack of power. Happens sometimes. After I connected the power cord, I had to restart the computer and after that my virtual machine won't start. It says that another virtual machine is using it.

But it was excellent up to this!!! This will completely revolutionize the way I work with my computer!

The solution: open Terminal and delete the hidden file that ends with pvs.lock in your folder with the virtual machine.

In my case I wrote:

cd ~/Library/Parallels/winxp/
rm .winxp.pvs.lock

Cannot open the new Pararrels a second time - Eric_Dorsey

I am getting the same message after my Mac Pro crashed with a kernel panic and now I cannot restart Parallels since it tells me that I already have a virtual machine running. I sent an email to Parallels but they said it could be 3 days but that is long time not to access my Outlook calendar. Anyone else have a fix for this problem? TIA
