shouldn't your LCD go into 'sleep mode' after a certain time? this would be set in System Preferences, under Energy Saver.
unless this screen saver prevented sleep mode somehow, i would not be so quick to blame it for burn-in on your monitor. if i left any screensaver running with static images over the course of a few days, there would be a little ghosting on my LCD too.
