Yeah, I had the same problem. (Curiously, on a machine with basically the same specs.) The same fix seems to have worked.

To avoid the Waiting for kernel connection problem with Maple 12 on Mac, before to follow the instructions in the How to install file do:

Finder: Go -> Utilities -> Terminal and type:

cd YOUR PATH TO THE MAPLE 1212 FOLDER

chmod -R u+x *

Now follow the instructions in the How to instal file.

Maple should work.
