So, unlike the Anger Management candidate in the next comment, I agree that removing a working feature seems kind of dumb. However, wanted to note the Control-ScrollWheel feature silently introduced in 10.4.8. You can magnify with the scroll wheel now in CoreImage capable GPUs.

I have always used Apple(+)= and -. The two keys between 0 and delete. Have used it sense IE 5, god those were bad days.

Control + Option (Alt) + Wheel also have effect on text size.
