Nicely presented but... - Jak T Rip

About who will want to keep DVDs on the HD:

Well, everyone who wants to keep movies and doesnt want to waste time (for burning DVDs), money (because HDs are much less expensive than DVDs), storage space (no dvd piles in your room), comfort (all your movies always handy, no need to insert a disc) and security (DVDs are no long-term-storage solution, at least not the ones you usually get in stores, and are much more vulnerable to scratches than e.g. CDs).

Right. Who would rip hundreds of DVDs on to one large external drive the size of three DVDs put together, allowing you to access any movie you own instantly. It's much more fun having to get your butt up off your couch, rummage through your collection of hundreds of movies spread out over a dozen shelves, and pop it in the DVD player. I don't see the convenience of it either. But, they say it's the future so we might as well get use to it. I use to have a friend that thought I was weird for ripping CDs and keeping my songs on my HD. It's all ones and zeros. It's nice to have it all in one place and have software to help you organize it.

I was an avid DVD collector with over 270+ titles in my collection. It wasnt until I got married that I realized how much room my collection took up which was housed almost by an entire room of its own. So after getting hitched I had to either say bye bye to my collection or find some other way to keep my collection going but without taking up so much space. So I went out and purchased four external lacie DVD-Rs, a raid 6 rackmount raid server with over 4 terabytes of redundant storage space, and got to ripping. I now have my entire collection with tons more room for expansion.

*Notes* - Don't tell my wife but I kept all the DVD....there just in storage.
