Don't complain, VNC is free - artful38

VNC is freeware, so you kinda get what you pay for. It obviously works "good enough" for most people. If you need rock-solid reliability, shell out some cash for a commercial product like Timbuktu Pro.

Great when it works, horrible and annoying other times - pseudonym

Or try "Share My Desktop", which has never failed me yet in hundreds of hours logged.

Works very reliably - JonathanOSX

We and hundreds of other companies use this consistently and on a daily basis. If you were unable to connect I'm sure there was a very good explanation and based on your description it was probably a network problem that was completely unrelated to OSXvnc. Feel free to post your questions to our support forum at http://www.redstonesoftware.com/phpBB2

"Share My Desktop" is actually just an AppleScript wrapper of OSXvnc's embedded vnc server.

Turn on display sharing - mjsickel_

I had this problem for a while, until I realized that if the connection was broken rather then being quit, the server thought the client was still attached, so wouldn't let another client connect.
The solution is to select "Let clients decide" or "Always share display" from the Sharing tab on the prefs: this way it doesn't care if it still thinks the old instance was still connected.
