Dude, what are you talking about? You just click on the little "i" and set the preference to scan for art for the selected tracks! It defaults to currently playing. It's been this way for a little while now, I believe.
And as for the larger sized album art that it's finding, that you can't find on Amazon.com, try clicking anywhere on the image in the widget window (anywhere except for the "Set as album art in iTunes" part) It should launch your web browser and show you were it found the image. These larger res images are usually located on Amazon.com and are uploaded by customers who have submitted their own scan of the album cover art.
