Actually, I think they only dropped plans to produce a universal binary version. It remains unclear to me whether they dropped VPC altogether.
They certainly took their sweet time about announcing it, since the product essentially died when Boot Camp and Parallels were announced and demonstrated. It certainly feels like the PPC-VPC is dead since those of us with modern day G5 desktop computers running OSX.4 seem to be forgotten - I cannot install 702 on my dual G5 because VPC does not recognize the CD ROM drive.
