Maybe you should read the link on their home page titled very clearly "Tell me why I should buy SoftRAID when Apples RAID is free?", and then you can see if the extra functionality is something worth paying for for your particular situation.

I agree that RAID is not better than backup, RAID + Backup is better than Backup alone. SoftRAID is superior to Apple's Software RAID in terms of SoftRAID has a much better interface and rebuilding a disk is much easier to perform and monitor with SoftRAID. Right on the tagline, wrong on being redundant with Apple's offering.

I had to rebuild my Raid 1 setup last night; one of the drives got out of sync somehow yesterday. As nearly as I can tell there was no hardware failure at all. There is a use for a better product than Apple RAID, perhaps. How it will work with the Leopard upgrade process will be interesting to see.
