As said before: Get Windows Media® Components for QuickTime (formally called flip4mac - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=915D874D-D747-4180-A400-5F06B1B5E559&displaylang=en) - it's free and after installation Quicktime will play wmv-files (just those without DRM and only up to WM9, WM10 is NOT supported yet). And MAYBE it's possible to convert those files (!not tested, just an idea!), if you check the option "use quicktime to decode" inside the video-settings of ffmpegX. If Quicktime has got a valid codec for wmv (->WMV-components), a conversion might be possible.

You need Flip4Mac WMV Sudio for $49, that's the only way to do it. WMV really should just die and the world would be a better place.http://www.flipformac.com/wmv_studio.htm

I have had real good luck converting .wmv files to .mp4 files using a program called iSquint here on VT. I have only tried it with short files (under 3 minutes or so) but it does a very good job with quality at least as good as the original. And I think it's free.Monday, July 03 2006 @ 10:08 AM PDT

If using Mac Use MPEG streamclip 1.7, this does convert WMV to Quicktime with no problems then use Toast to burn onto DVD.Saturday, August 26 2006 @ 04:05 AM PDT

I've been using visualhub to stitch wmv's together and make mpegs. Its only problem is that the time index usually gets read incorrectly by quicktime( the playback stopsafter a coupleof minutes)but VLC and Mplayer are fine with it.Sunday, September 24 2006 @ 09:53 PM PDT
