I hear you. And I would like the same. But iChat isn't bad. I had never seen the picture and sound in sync and in real-time until I saw it on iChat. If your friends are on a Mac, you might as well use iChat.. I am not sure whether the webcams on PC (USB) are fast enough when it comes to video.
Also, I find that iChat does a great job with sound. No echo. Super connection.. I have no complaints.. It's free too :)
But that said, Skype is up to 2.0 on PC now, where is the 2.0 version on OS X?! I am not sure if they jumped from 1.4 to 2.0 on the PC, but please Skype people, don't start get behind on the OS X releases!
