You have to get the movie file to the right format for the iPod, the easiest way to do this is with iSquint,http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/28250
It will convert most video formats to view on an iPod easily, and without the need for quicktime codecs. For a decent video player use VLC,

It'll play many more formats including ones that quicktime won't.

You need to install the DivX Codec in order to play the Lost episode you downloaded. When you have installed the codec you will be able to play DivX files in Quicktime. The alternative is to download VLC (do search on versiontracker) which will play most movie formats and will let you play them fullscreen, free of charge.

I found the same. You have to download mpeg files and then you have to convert them to 320x240 (Quicktime Pro) to view on ipod. If anybody knows how to open a .mov file on a Mac, i'd sure like to know. Not because I'm a Mac person, but I think that Quicktime should be the standard for viewing video. All other formats fail.
