"The update does show up in my Software Updates control panel, but I prefer to download the standalone updater should I need to reinstall in the future."Though you are right about Apple needing do address the principle matter, don't forget that from "Software Update" you can choose "Update" > "Install and keep package" from the menu items. (Once they're downloaded, it will open the "Packages" folder, where you can drag them out to your favorite archive location.)
