Uh, I installed it exactly as the instructions said the first time. It's not difficult; you just use the installer app.
And as you'll see from other posts, it IS a problem with the plugin. Apparently, it hangs the whole mail app when it can't connect to the server to check for updates.
The author should add a time-out function if it can't connect within 5 seconds or something.
