Users not given control, developer insist you do things THEIR way! - smolka
Ulysses tries to develop a tool which does not distract authors.Formatting is one thing authors have not been trained to do (and rarely do well), and which can be hugely distracting, whether you are aware of it or not, if only because it becomes an addiction. Something to fizzle with when you should be doing something else.
Italics, for example, is usually used in overdosis.
If you really need italics, or boldface, it can still be done within Ulysses, but you'll have to want it really bad.
Yes, the developers have their own ideas about things, at that's waht make sthis an app that stands out. It may not work for you. And then again, it may, and if it does, you'll love it.
Just try to actually write in Ulysses (not testing its features), and see if it mauy work for you. I revised a stubborn paragraph in it, and was hooked ever since.

Uh, that's the way it is with anything buddy. Applications do certain things some users need. Those users use the application. Everyone else does not. Your post is about as informative and wise as frothing lunatic, screaming about how Photoshop is the worst tool to write a novel in.Go back to Copywrite, or whever you came from. :) You have your own forum.

Still a great product - stoneman
You can try Ulysses for 8 weeks to see if it suits your writing style. If it doesn't, you don't have to buy it. The developers state up front what their product is and what their philosophy is. This two star rating says nothing about the quality of the product; it only says that Ulysses doesn't do what the reviewer wants it to do. I would encourage people to try it, and also to read the uncensored forum on the developer's website. Darned useful program, once I got over the fact that it behaves like no other program of its kind. Rock solid stability too.Reply to This
