First, you have to be careful when using FDVDC when backing up some dual-layer disks. Some disks are pressed without adhearing strictly to the dual-layer standards and use a seamless layer break, which can ironically confuse some of the more regimented desktop players (Panasonics are notoriously pickey). Unfortunately FDVDC can have some issues when backing these disks up (like Star Wars). The layer break is not always duplicated correctly and what happens is that you get a disk that locks up at the layer change.I have found that if I rip with FDVDC and then burn with Popcorn, everything works perfectly. Popcorn seems to manage layer breaks much better. Oh, and the issue of the Compression notification (even when backing up to a dual layer disk) - read the Popcorn Help - No compression is used when burning to a dual layer disk. Compression is only applied "when required" just like the Dialog Box says.
All in all FDVDC is a pretty slick all-in-one tool, it just needs some fixes for the layer switch issue --- Then it will be perfect.

Near the big circular button on the bottom right, Toast allows you to choose between CD, DVD, and DVD DL. Get the setting right before you drag your disk image into the window!Friday, November 04 2005 @ 09:17 PM PST
